Eventually Melissa would discover
that her truly favorite figure is and
will be the well-executed melisma,
whether in plainchant or pop tunes
expressing romantic swoon or desire.
She'd also miss an impatient partner
preferring arpeggios night and day,
day and night in his sonic ventures,
both on the edges and in the middle
of the managed musico-poetic fray.
Their relationship hit a point of skid,
a grandiose glissando in advance of
an oddish add-on, a melancholy coda
implying impending immersion in a
long passage of end and then silence.
