I sit in
My apartment,
Cool in
The air conditioning,
Though it's already
Cooler outside.
Some kid
Dribbles a basketball
On the sidewalk.
I, too, once
Endured
Unbearable heat
In classrooms
Without air conditioning;
And afterwards,
Out in the world,
Whether it was
Still hot or not,
The relief
Of being free.
