Chicken Little
The sky fell last year
and crushed all the rain
so I learned to love the desert. The sky fell last February
followed by snow dressed as war
so I learned to love carnage and death.(Anyway, a man’s home is his castle
and what man wouldn’t commit atrocities
for love of his castle?)The sky fell last night
(this time for real, for real, they said)
so I learned to love groping for whiskey by candlelight. The sky is falling again today
(No, I really mean it)
so I dragged myself out of bed and down the stairs to see.If I love this world, mama bird
that force-feeds me wormwood,
I can learn to love this fallen sky
