Regard
the wanting ear,
the dowager who tilts
her silver head nearer
the surgeon who considers
the elderly woman,
her dotage, her ear,
the moon—
all her phases—
how the moon
remaining whole
appears to wane,
how the woman
appearing whole
remains, does wane.
