I stand at a crossroads,
four wood planks
each carved to point
a way forward
into different futures.
It is the cobblestone
road higher that I take
as it becomes a winding path
to windswept vistas.
The Baltic Sea lies before me
looking toward St. Petersburg.
A glass blower throws wild colors
spinning into a profusion
of creations. He stops and brings
me a chair, then a cup of coffee.
In a red, white and blue dress,
so obviously an American,
I find happiness
maybe for the first time,
yet I have no home, no plan
beyond the next breath.
Here, right here in this place
with these people, my heart
finds a haven in Denmark.
