My mother's journey home
began on the eve
of the Harvest Moon,
95 years to the day
of her birth...
I recall delicate honeysuckle
dripping from vined branches,
a sticky-sweet cascade -
the air imbued with her perfume
Young stars, discovering the galaxies,
careened across purple heavens,
a silent explosion of silver light -
distant owl songs echoed enchantedly
She sat on high with Cassiopeia...
Her arms pulled down
by the weight of my longing,
caressed me, her only daughter -
I stood motionless in her embrace.
And in the amaranth glow
of Heart and Soul,
her caramel eyes
felled a sweet teardrop
upon my cheek -
A farewell kiss.
