Like a parent
showing a small child,
I try to teach myself
to be happy.
Look at the blue sunlight,
I tell myself,
how it rains
onto the green leaves, look
at your loved ones,
how they look at you
when you swing open the front door
as if unlocking
a huge safe.
Allow all the random voices
to find their own way
out of your thoughts.
Let your lips
relax. Float
on your life
as it scoops you up
and rocks you.
Let the ones you care about most
encircle you
like birthday candles
and always remember
to wish.
