Today I heard the birds
naming me-no Latin,
no guide to the Western
A few were insulting-
names that imply neglect-
but the entire gang of sparrows
called me bluebird
Cardinals focused on my hands:
long pointer,
the woodpecker was far too
serious and busy to
participate,
but the chickadees
called me
lovesong
and I began to
bloom in
the depths of
winter
