This time after you - a drawing in
of summer: rosehips, dahlias, hydrangeas
on the turn; solace from asters, salvias
and phlox, and, in the herb garden,
walking amongst feverfew, tarragon,
rosemary, mint; crushing double camomile
between my fingers, the scent rising, rising.
The times during you - it was always
high summer: rosa mulliganii, white irises,
Japanese anemones, lime trees in full leaf,
cottage garden ablaze, moat water green
and quiet, the Tower stairs cool, what sun
there was lighting fires in the coloured glass
until all was rainbow, rainbow, rainbow.
