is you don’t always get the
answer you expect
like when
i asked mom if i was
adopted
because my friends tend to
joke about it
and being the
confused child who
gets to think beyond
what’s there for her to think
i asked if it’s true
and you only told me that
you love me for being born
that there is this intangible
line between a mother and child
like flowers blooming
from a tree
only the fruits grew
from another’s roots
and i didn’t understand
what that meant
